The owners of this beautiful 1930’s Spanish-style stucco home came to us with the desire to add more livable space. They also wanted to take advantage of the beautiful skyline view that existed from their roof. We designed a second story addition that was consistent with the style of the home and blended in with the scale of the neighborhood beautifully. New stairs were conveniently placed in the existing music room, leaving plenty of space for the piano while opening up the room and providing a view of the decorative newel post and railing. The most exciting of the new spaces is the second floor deck that spans the width of the house and captures the wonderful views. The outdoor fireplace allows the deck to be comfortable all year long. The master suite runs the length of the house, giving the bedroom direct access to the open deck and allowing the bathroom to take advantage of the pretty backyard views. The closets provide desperately needed storage space and a comfortable dressing/ vanity area. The coffee bar allows the homeowners to have their morning coffee without having to go downstairs as they get ready for their day, and it also is convenient for entertaining upstairs. The second “bedroom” was designed specifically to be a yoga room, giving the clients an open area for their daily exercise routine. This space also has wonderful closet storage and a balcony that looks over the backyard. The sitting area at the top of the stairs is used as an office, but also is a nice open transition space between the stairs and the other rooms. Windows were incorporated in the stairwell to provide plenty of light and give the space an open feeling. The stained-glass window in the master bedroom was custom designed by a local artist. The sunroom is a comfortable and bright space that is adjacent to the open deck and shares many of the same views. Each space reflects the homeowners’ love of the Arts & Crafts style combined with a contemporary flair. The addition is a unique design reflecting the homeowners’ personal touch as well as craftsmanship of the highest quality.
