The kitchen, breakfast room and surrounding areas in this home felt cramped, inefficient and choppy. The kitchen was outdated, and the layout lacked good workspace. The homeowners wanted us to create a larger kitchen with a “rustic-feel” that also offered modern conveniences while making it a more comfortable space for their growing family to gather. We incorporated the breakfast room into the kitchen space by removing the wall between the two rooms. We removed two closets and a portion of the hallway wall to provide as much space as possible to the designated area. Opening up the three areas to each other provided space in the family room for a breakfast table as well as a comfortable sitting area. The flow between the three areas is much more comfortable and all of the spaces feel larger. The large center island was designed to resemble a rustic furniture piece while providing seating and valuable counter space. A beautiful copper vent hood, trimmed in wood stained to match the island, was centered in the new kitchen space between the two windows to create the perfect focal point for the room. The renovation not only gives the family a highly functional and efficient kitchen, but it also creates a wonderful overall space where the homeowners spend most of their time. The kitchen is truly the heart of this home, and this renovation project has made it the warmest and most comfortable space in the house.
